# Raster — full context for agents and LLMs

> The agent-native DAM for teams that ship. Raster helps humans and AI agents store, organize, search, and ship visual assets.

## How Raster works (orientation for agents)

Raster stores original image files, organizes them with AI-assisted tagging, and serves them from a global CDN — for humans and for AI agents acting on their behalf.

The data model is three levels: an **organization** owns one or more **libraries**, and each library holds **assets** (images). An API key is scoped to a single organization and an allowlist of its libraries, each at read or write access, so every asset-level call takes an `organizationId` + `libraryId` pair.

One data model and one API key drive three transports — pick the one that fits your client:

- **MCP** — connect an agent client (Claude, Cursor, VS Code, the OpenAI Responses API) to the remote server at `https://mcp.raster.app/` with a Bearer key. Reference: https://raster.app/docs/api/mcp
- **REST** — call `https://api.raster.app/` over plain HTTP with an `Authorization: Bearer` key and the `Api-Version` header; responses use a `{ data }` / `{ error }` envelope. Reference: https://raster.app/docs/api/rest
- **GraphQL** — the same surface at `https://api.raster.app/`. Reference: https://raster.app/docs/api/graphql

The working loop is the same across all three transports:

1. **Resolve scope** — `whoami` (REST `GET /me`) returns your `organizationId` and the libraries the key can reach.
2. **Read what exists** — list and search assets and tags to ground later actions.
3. **Add images** — upload from a public `http(s)` URL or an inline base64 payload; processing is asynchronous, and each asset returns a permanent CDN `url` right away.
4. **Organize** — tag, describe, transfer between libraries, or soft-delete (recoverable from trash).
5. **Hand off** — return each asset's permanent CDN `url` and the library URL to the user.

Two styles from one class. `.tabs` is the default segmented control — the primary tab group, with a neutral pill sliding behind the active tab. `.tabs.tabs-minimal` is the compact underline style, for sub-tabs or where space is tight (a full-contrast label over a raster-red underline). Put the class on whichever element fits semantically: a group of buttons (in-page switching), a group of links (`aria-current="page"` marks the active one), a radio group, or a `<select>` (compact picker). ## 1. Scope

This Privacy Policy explains how Raster Inc. ("Raster", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and discloses information when you use our website, applications, and related services (collectively, the "Services").

By using the Services, you acknowledge this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service at https://raster.app/terms.

## 2. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly and information collected automatically, including:

- Account information (name, email, authentication identifiers)
- Organization and team membership details
- Billing and transaction records from payment processors
- Uploaded images/files and related metadata
- Device, browser, IP, and usage diagnostics
- Cookies and similar technologies for security, sessions, and analytics

We do not store full payment card numbers on Raster-operated systems.

## 3. How We Use Information

We use information to provide and improve the Services, authenticate users, secure accounts, process billing, respond to support, send service communications, prevent abuse, enforce terms, and comply with law.

## 4. Legal Bases (EEA/UK)

Where applicable, we process personal data under contract performance, legitimate interests, legal obligations, and consent.

## 5. How We Share Information

We may share information with service providers, your organization administrators (based on library and permission settings), legal authorities when required, and successor entities in a merger or acquisition.

We do not sell your personal information.

## 6. Data Retention

We retain personal information as long as needed to provide the Services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements.

## 7. International Transfers

The Services are operated from the United States. Information may be transferred to and processed in the United States and other jurisdictions where providers operate.

## 8. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, export, object to, or restrict processing of personal data, and to withdraw consent where applicable.

You can also control certain communications through account preferences or unsubscribe links in emails.

## 9. Cookies and Tracking Choices

We use cookies and similar technologies for authentication, security, feature preferences, and analytics. Some cookies are required for core product behavior and cannot be disabled without affecting service functionality.

You can control cookies through browser settings. If your browser or extension sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we process that signal where legally required.

## 10. U.S. State Privacy Rights

If you are a resident of California or another U.S. state with an applicable privacy law, you may have rights to know, access, correct, delete, and receive a copy of personal information, and to opt out of certain sharing or processing practices.

To submit a rights request, email privacy@raster.app with enough detail for us to verify and process your request.

## 11. Deletion and Account Closure

You can request account closure and deletion of personal information by contacting us at privacy@raster.app. We may retain limited records required for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, and billing reconciliation.

## 12. Automated Processing and AI Features

Certain product features may use automated analysis to help organize assets (for example, generating labels, classifications, or search enhancements). These features are designed to improve retrieval and workflow speed, and are not used to make legal or similarly significant decisions about you.

## 13. Third-Party Services and Processors

We rely on third-party providers to operate core parts of the Services, including:

- Cloud hosting and storage providers
- Authentication and identity infrastructure
- Payment processors and billing systems
- Monitoring, error tracking, and analytics tools
- Email delivery and customer support tooling

These providers process personal information under contractual restrictions and only as needed to provide services to Raster.

## 14. Google User Data

Raster offers "Sign in with Google" as an optional authentication method, implemented through Firebase Authentication. When you choose to sign in with Google, we request only the standard non-sensitive OAuth scopes `openid`, `profile`, and `email`. We do not request or access any restricted or sensitive Google Workspace scopes (such as Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Contacts, or Photos).

**Google user data we access:**

- Your Google account email address
- Your name and profile picture URL as set on your Google account
- Your Google OpenID identifier (the stable `sub` claim), used as your account identifier inside Raster

**How we use Google user data:**

- Authenticating you and creating or signing you in to your Raster account
- Displaying your name and profile picture inside Raster (e.g. sidebar, member lists, activity logs)
- Sending transactional and account-related emails to your Google email address
- Preventing abuse and securing your account

**How we store and protect Google user data:** Authentication tokens are managed by Firebase Authentication. Your name, email, profile picture URL, and Google identifier are stored in our Firestore user records, encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. We retain this information for as long as your Raster account is active. We do not store your Google password.

**How we share Google user data:** We do not sell, rent, or transfer Google user data to third parties. We share it only with the infrastructure providers strictly required to operate the Services (currently Google Firebase for authentication and data storage), under contractual restrictions and only as needed to provide the Services to you. We do not use Google user data for advertising, and we do not use it to train machine learning models.

**How to revoke access and delete your data:** You can revoke Raster's access to your Google account at any time from https://myaccount.google.com/permissions. To delete your Raster account and the associated Google user data we store, email privacy@raster.app.

## 15. Security

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information, but no method is completely secure.

## 16. Incident Response

If we become aware of a confirmed security incident involving personal information, we will take steps to contain and investigate the incident and provide notifications as required by applicable law.

## 17. Children's Privacy

The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

## 18. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date and additional notice where required.

## 1. Agreement to Terms

These Terms of Use constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Raster Inc. ("Raster", "we", "us", or "our"), concerning your access to and use of the https://raster.app website and any related media form, media channel, mobile website or mobile application (collectively, the "Site"). We are registered in Delaware and have our registered office at 651 N Broad St, Suite 201, Middletown, DE 19709.

By accessing the Site, you agree to be bound by all of these Terms. If you do not agree, you must discontinue use immediately.

We may update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Site after changes constitutes acceptance. The Site is intended for users who are at least 18 years old.

## 2. Intellectual Property Rights

The Site and all Content and Marks are our proprietary property, protected by copyright and trademark laws. You are granted a limited license to access and use the Site for personal, non-commercial use only.

## 3. User Representations

By using the Site, you represent that all registration information is true and accurate, you have legal capacity, you will not access the Site through automated means, and your use will not violate any applicable law.

## 4. User Registration

You may be required to register. You agree to keep your password confidential. We reserve the right to remove inappropriate usernames.

## 5. Fees and Payment

We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, PayPal, and Apple Pay. You agree to provide accurate payment information. All payments are in U.S. dollars. Recurring charges continue until you cancel.

**Plan Changes and Storage Allocations.** Subscription plans, including storage quotas, included features, usage limits, and pricing, are subject to change at any time. We reserve the right, in our sole discretion, to (a) modify pricing for new and existing subscriptions; (b) increase or decrease storage allocations and feature entitlements associated with any plan; (c) introduce, rename, restructure, deprecate, or retire plans; and (d) change how usage is measured, billed, or enforced. For material reductions to a plan you are actively subscribed to, we will provide reasonable advance notice by email or in-product notification, and the change will take effect at the start of your next billing cycle. Your continued use of the Services after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the modified plan. If you do not accept the change, your sole remedy is to cancel your subscription before the effective date (Section 7).

## 6. Free Trial

We offer a 180-day free trial. The subscription will be suspended until upgraded at the end of the free trial.

## 7. Cancellation

Cancel at any time by logging into your account or contacting us. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid term. Contact: legal@raster.app

## 8. Software

Software provided in connection with our services is licensed on a non-exclusive, revocable, personal, non-transferable basis, provided "as is" without warranty.

## 9. Prohibited Activities

You may not: systematically retrieve data without permission, trick or defraud users, circumvent security features, use the Site for unauthorized commercial purposes, upload viruses, engage in automated use, or use the Site to compete with us.

## 10. User Generated Contributions

Contributions may be viewable by other users. You represent that your Contributions do not infringe any rights, are not false or misleading, and do not violate any laws.

## 11. Contribution License

By posting Contributions, you grant us an unrestricted, irrevocable, perpetual, royalty-free worldwide license to use them. You retain full ownership of your Contributions.

## 12. Mobile Application License

If you access the Site via a mobile application, we grant you a revocable, non-exclusive, limited right to use the application on your devices in accordance with these Terms.

## 13. Submissions

Any Submissions (questions, comments, suggestions, ideas, feedback) are non-confidential and become our sole property.

## 14. Third-Party Websites and Content

We are not responsible for Third-Party Websites or Content accessed through the Site.

## 15. U.S. Government Rights

Our services are "commercial items" as defined in FAR 2.101.

## 16. Site Management

We reserve the right to monitor the Site, take legal action against violators, and manage the Site to protect our rights.

## 17. Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) Notice and Policy

We reserve the right to correct errors on the Site at any time without prior notice.

## 23. Disclaimer

THE SITE IS PROVIDED ON AN AS-IS AND AS-AVAILABLE BASIS. WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES.

## 24. Limitations of Liability

The image URLs your team has dropped into sites and CMSs still resolve where they always did. If signing in today feels familiar, that's the point — months of careful work went into making a from-scratch rebuild feel like a regular Tuesday.

Alongside the rebuild, we're shipping a handful of improvements you'll see right away: better accessibility, a faster library overview, keyboard-first editing, and a round of smaller polish. They were all built on the new foundation, and they're landing together today.

### Auto-generate image descriptions with Raster's AI

Raster’s aim is to improve marketing workflows and make it easier for teams to manage their images and digital assets. To do this, we’ve created a powerful DAM that works faster than anything else out there, but now we want to make it work smarter.

But they’re accurately, identify all of the key elements within an image and create a clear description. For the vast of users - and by vast we mean the overwhelming majority - they will never have to input or edit a description of an image within Raster.

### The importance of al-text

That might not sound incredibly exciting, but it is important. Alt-text, sometimes referred to as ‘alt attributes’ or ‘alt descriptions’, helps Google and other search engines to better understand that images and content on your website and serve up better results during searches.

**Bynder**

Launched in 2013, [Bynder](https://www.bynder.com) aimed to solve many of the problems with first-generation DAM products (like Dropbox). It radically improved the overall landscape and developed features and functionalities that specifically addressed the challenges of digital asset management.

Now a legacy player in the market, it remains an extremely popular solution. With features that simplify finding and sharing assets, automate workflows, and improve digital rights management. As a second-generation DAM, Bynder has had time to develop a wide range of features and certainly provides one of the most well-rounded solutions on the market.

But it is still not the perfect solution for every use case. Many third-generation DAMs now offer features that Bynder has yet to develop and it’s lack of a free storage plan and pricing structure makes it unsuitable for small teams or individuals or companies that are looking for a DAM to use as they scale.

Another one of the second-generation DAM providers, [Brandfolder](https://brandfolder.com/) has also developed a fairly complete range of features to improve your digital asset management. And the reality is, managing digital assets can be really complicated. There are some great DAM legacy systems out there, but overall it’s an industry that has failed to progress and match the needs and UX expectations of users.

We’ve watched as clients have used multiple platforms to store, edit, and share images. Struggled to find the image that they need. Created multiple versions because it’s simply faster than searching through their library. Or had workflows fall apart and the wrong image used for a new campaign simply because their existing tools make collaboration impossible.

That’s why we created [Raster](https://raster.app/home). Like a lot of software, it started as an internal tool to help us do our jobs better and then we realized that it could help a lot people as well. - **More video support.** Video tiles play on hover, so you can scan a library of clips without opening each one.
- **True transparency.** Transparent images sit on a checkerboard so you can see exactly where the alpha is, and SVGs render as crisp vectors at any size.
- **Redesigned details panel.** A rebuilt sidebar brings an editable title, one-click download and copy, and a clean metadata table — now shared by video and PDF files, not just images.
- **Upload variants over the API.** REST, GraphQL, and MCP uploads accept a `parentId`, so you can attach a new file as a variant of an existing asset straight from your integration — and an asset's variants come back inline when you list it.
- **One name for variants.** An asset's child files are now `variants` everywhere on REST and MCP (they were `views`). GraphQL keeps `views` working as a deprecated alias, so existing plugins are unaffected.
- **Built for AI agents.** Assets now carry an open-in-app link and embed-ready CDN guidance, and Raster publishes a root `llms-full.txt` and OpenAPI spec so agents can discover and use your library directly.

Raster's external API now speaks plain HTTP. Every endpoint from the GraphQL API — list libraries, list assets, list tags, upload, delete — is now also available as a REST endpoint, backed by the same data and the same API keys you already use.

# Editor keyboard navigation

We've completely overhauled how the keyboard works inside the image editor, making it possible to fly through edits without touching the mouse.

- **Navigate everything:** Use the `Up` and `Down` arrows to move between control groups (like Brightness to Contrast), and `Left` and `Right` to adjust the sliders.
- **Cycle assets and versions:** When you aren't actively editing a value, `Left` and `Right` cycle through your library's images, while `Up` and `Down` cycle through the saved versions of the current image.
- **Smarter Escape:** Hitting `Escape` now follows a logical priority — it closes the active popup first, then discards edits, and finally closes the editor, rather than doing it all at once.
- **Quick save and rename:** Hitting `Enter` while renaming a version now commits the name and saves the version in a single keystroke.
- **Cmd/Ctrl + S:** Hit **Cmd / Ctrl + S** anywhere you're viewing an asset to download it instantly. If you have unsaved edits open, it will save your new version instead. No more reaching for the menu.

## Summer 2025 Update

This update brings user experience improvements and a host of performance upgrades to make using Raster feel much more magical. More importantly, these changes set the stage for the introduction of new features we're excited to ship in the coming months. Stay tuned.

Here’s what’s new and improved in Raster:

### Search gets an upgrade

We've rewritten our command palette search. This change brings faster, more relevant search results. We also implemented a smart caching system for search keys, which means less loading and quicker access to your assets.

### Image grid and editor Improvements

- The image grid now resizes gracefully when you change your window size.
- Location metadata is now included in the sidebar when viewing an asset.
- Fixed a bug that sometimes caused zero-width thumbnails on mobile.
- Arrow key navigation in the image viewer is now more reliable.
- Transparent images now display with a checkerboard background, making them much easier to see and work with in both light and dark modes.
- Higher resolution images now have better handling, with limits for improved performance.

### Organization settings redesign

- Refreshed the users table and added descriptions of all roles when inviting a new user.
- “Manage Subscription” section now provides a more detailed breakdown.
- Addressed multiple bugs where accessing certain subscription and invoice data could cause errors.

### Deleted asset experience

- Dedicated "Deleted" section in the editor sidebar to make it clear when you're viewing a trashed item.

The aim of this update is to start building on the stable base we've built with Raster, to start refining the features and listening to our users. We've heard you, and we've improved a lot of things, big and small. And we have even more large improvements to ship this quarter!

- HUGE if true (and it is true): you can now select any amount of images you want in a library, right click, and choose "Download" — Raster will automatically zip them all up (including their versions) and send it your way

## Big Things Ahead

We've learned a great deal in the past few months about scaling the back-end of Raster. With larger libraries demanding more from Raster's front and back-end, we've identified and been working on key opportunities to improve the user experience.

- Fixed an annoying issue where Raster would silently fail on image upload. This was due to unknown, large, or corrupted metadata. Raster now nicely lets you know what's going on, so you're not left in the dark again

- Improved back-end processes for deleting user data. When you delete a library, we make sure all your images are actually deleted on the server as well.
- Fixed issues where metadata transfer would silently fail

We're introducing Personal Organizations! While not truly an Organization, it behaves like one in the sense that you can create Personal libraries within it. The only limitations of Personal Organizations versus Organizations is that you cannot invite other users to your personal Organization.

- Transfer photos between libraries by dragging and dropping

## Transformation! 🎉

We introduced a new "Transform" pane! This includes three cool new edits.

- **Rotation** rotates the image within the current frame. This is useful for correcting a slightly misaligned photo or creating a flat horizon
- **Orientation** works as you expect. Rotate your entire canvas by 0°, 90°, 180°, 270°
- **Flip** allows you to mirror your image across the X axis, Y axis, or both.

## Introducing Libraries

Workspaces are now Libraries, and paired with Organizations, are now a lot more powerful. A Library is a collection of images in Raster. A Library also contains its own subset of tags and users. You can transfer a Library to another Organization within Raster.

## New onboarding flow

We've added a quick Welcome flow in Raster (\< 90s).

It guides new users through choosing their display mode, creating their first organization and library, and uploading their first photos.

### Easier cropping and transforming

Cropping photos just got way easier. Users will be able to use a familiar interface, and control the maximum width and height of the image in the Output pane.

### Archive versions

Based on user feedback, we learned that Raster needed a way to archive versions. We've added that, and redesigned the interface in the meantime. Now, you can archive versions, and view archived versions in any image.

### Improvements

- Our website now supports light and dark mode
- For accessibility, users who prefer high contrast or users who who prefer reduced motion are respected on the app and website
- We've removed the Details pane in the image editor and spread it into the other panes

### User settings

Previously, users had no way to view or change their profile information, like name, email, or profile picture. We've added that in the latest update.

### Light mode

### New photo editor

Raster's photo editor got a major upgrade from a list of parameters to an interactive and engaging tool to quickly make changes.

### Introducing versions

Versions are a way to make changes to a photo without creating an entirely new one, leaving your workpsace nice and clean. Create a new version by hitting the "Edit" button on any image.

1. Each version has its own unique URL
2. Versions are non-destructive (they cannot be edited afterwards)
3. You can have unlimited versions on an image

### Improvements

- Faster frontend performance. Raster now supports thousands of images on one page.
- No more invite link. Users can log into Raster using their invited email; no need to use the link in the email.
- Faster image load times. Raster preloads images it expects you to open soon.
- Version data is now shown in the sidebar (created date, width, height)
- Support for GIF images added
- The file extension is now removed from the image name when uploading
- AI tags are able to be deleted

We've added support for searching through images with a command palette. Use Cmd+K to open the command palette on any page. Search for images, commands, and more. You can only search in the selected workspace.
